Profile: Denise Pipkin

My childhood days in a village in Staffordshire were spent exploring the countryside and making things out of scraps of fabric, string, sticks and lots of Cellotape - a new kite, something that would sail on the pond or a dress for my pet cat.

When I was 12 my family moved to Cornwall after countless holidays there. My imagination was fuelled with new colours and shapes of the atmospheric Cornish coast. After many years experimenting with different materials, making anything from driftwood chairs to wedding dresses, I left Cornwall to do a BA Hons at Hereford College of Art and Design. In 2003 I moved back to Cornwall where I have continued to develop my work gaining commissions across the UK and Europe.
